Bought this camera to replace my wife's earlier model Sony that took a bath!!!. She loves this one. Bigger display. Only drawback is lack of an optical viewfinder, but the LCD display is so good that this lack is not a problem.
Would wholeheartedly recommend this camera to anyone. Great buy, and the usual great Amazon service.

First, I will be fair to the GH1 camera. Coming from a 1DSMKIII and 5D, the little GH1 was easy to get used to design-wise, and I felt the quality of the pictures were very good at lower ISOs. The kit lens actually looks sharper at wider focal lengths then my Canon 24-70 2.8 L, though the tele side is pretty soft. You can carry this thing around and not even feel it. But it is not built like a professional camera, even a semi-pro one. I've owned mine for 1 day shy of two weeks and already the i-bolt (don't know the real name) that is physically attached to cameras side where the camera strap is supposed to connect to popped off. This is a major problem as it happened while the camera was around my neck. Luckily I felt the camera slip and was able to catch it before it fell. Others might be less fortunate if this problem turns out to be a design or manufacturing defect because in addition to the potential for the camera to drop off your neck at any moment, the connector that attaches to the i-bolt inside the camera is now off floating around inside the body somewhere... if its metal and it connects with a circuit board this could get ugly.

I hope this does not happen to anyone else.

**Update**

As of Nov. 2nd I have received a full-refund for this problem, though it took a lot longer than it should have. I updated my star rating to reflect that.

There is apparently a lug strap problem -- there are a lot of reports on the dpreview forum website of the lug straps breaking/falling out on the GH1. Apparently the 14-140mm lens may put too much weight on the lug straps when carried by a neck strap. I want to buy the camera and lens to add to my growing G1 system. It's a fantastic system. But I'd wait if I were you to buy untl there's a solution. Otherwise, if the lug straps break, the camera will fall to the ground and break.

Panasonic is apparently repair (though it's not clear how well) the problem at their Illinois facility, but waiting time is reported to be long -- about 1 month.

I have been checking around to find an SLR that I could upgrade to from the ordinary cameras they have out there. I have been using the Sony cybershot which I do love and it is great for basic photography but I wanted one that I could do more with and with this camera you can do so much. I would not have thought to pick up all of the items that come with this package and the carry case is much better than I would have expected it to be with this price. I have only used this a few times but the pictures are beautiful, crisp and clear. I would definately recommend this camera.

Everything about this camera spec-wise is very attractive. I really like the size, the range of the lens, the versatility of the video, etc., but when it came right down to it, the image quality and performance of the camera/lens combo for still images was pretty bad, especialy indoors. First, the lens is quite slow. Combine this with a very weak flash, and you have a lot of trouble getting a properly exposed picture indoors. Wehn you use auto ISO, the camera stubbornly keeps the ISO at 100. The camera always selects a slow shutter speed (1/30 or 1/40) instead of upping the ISO. If you are content to use all manual settings, it is posible to get a well-exposed indoor shot, but with the auto modes, forget about it. Outdoors the image quality is pretty good, but nowhere near the quality from a standard sized DSLR like a D90.

So after using the camera for a couple weeks, I sold it. Even thought the D90 is considerably bigger, the small size of the GH1 is not worth the trade-offs to me.

After about 5 months with this camera I have produced some very high quality images even at 5 m pixels. The video's are amazingly brilliant and sharp too. The only problem I have had is with dust backscatter. I took about 100 images at a recent wedding I attended and at least half of them have ugly white rings which are present at different locations on the affected images. This only happens on the images that the flash fired. I was advised that this is a technical problem caused by the flash being to close to the lens. I was shooting in what would normally be considered a dust free area (Church and restaurant)so it is a design flaw.
I was kinda afraid of buying it since i saw bad & good reviews, BUT I love it, really good picture quality & really nice features. The screen kind of seems bigger in pictures but it is really big & clear. I'm extremely picky with cameras, one thing isn't right, & I'm done with it, but this one is perfect, I just had for a couple of days but I really like it, its small & cute.

This camera is ok... but a little bit bulky
Before this, i had the DSC-w200 which also has 12.1 meg... but with lighter design.

I liked better the W200, too bad i lost it and had to replace it whit this one.

I was in the market for point and shoot digital. I did tons of research and compared models side by side.
After a couple of weeks reading, testing and debating I went with the sony DSC-TX1.
If you are looking to buy a point and shoot digital camera, look no further.
This camera is flawless.

Definitely too much camera for the casual user. However, point and shoot features and picture quality are great. It's going to take a lot of practice to master the other features if you're not an experienced photographer which I am not. Pop up flash is pretty limited. An auxilliary flash to enhance photo shooting quality is recommended. If you're not an experienced photog, I recommend buying "Nikon D3000 For Dummies", or the "Nikon D3000 Digital Field Guide" by J. Dennis Thomas to better understand the camera's features and uses. They both provide enhanced step-by-step details on using the camera way beyond the instruction manual that comes with the camera.
